Utility Crew Lead

Position Summary 

AH Excavation is seeking an experienced Utility Crew Lead to oversee and perform the installation of utility infrastructure for new residential construction projects. This hands-on leadership role requires an individual who can safely operate heavy equipment, lead field crews, coordinate daily activities, and ensure projects are completed efficiently and according to specifications. 

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience installing water, sewer, and power utility infrastructure, strong knowledge of utility installation practices, and the ability to operate excavators and other construction equipment. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead and supervise utility installation crews on residential development projects. 

• Safely operate excavators and other heavy equipment required for utility installation. 

• Install and oversee installation of underground water, sewer, and power utility systems. 

• Read and interpret construction plans and utility drawings. 

• Coordinate daily work activities, job site logistics, and crew assignments. 

• Ensure all installations meet project specifications, local requirements, and quality standards. 

• Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and inspectors. 

• Perform safety inspections and maintain OSHA-compliant work practices. 

• Train and mentor crew members on proper installation techniques and safe operating procedures. 

• Complete daily reports and communicate project progress to management. 

Required Qualifications 

• Must have one of the following if not a U.S. Citizen: valid Idaho Drivers License, H-2B or TN Visa, or Permanent Resident Card

• Proven experience installing water, sewer, and power utility lines for residential development projects. 

• Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment proficiently and safely. 

• Strong understanding of underground utility installation methods and best practices. 

• Ability to read blueprints and utility plans. 

• Strong leadership and communication skills. 

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 

• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding work as needed. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience leading crews and managing daily production goals. 

• Equipment operation experience beyond excavators, including loaders, backhoes, and skid steers. 

• Class A Unrestricted Commercial Driver License (CDL) 

• Utility certifications or relevant industry training. 

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
